We drive to Thingvellir/ Þingvellir is about 35 km from Reykjavík. Þingvellir is a national park and has been so since 1930. Þingvellir have been accepted into the UN’s World Heritage List in 2004.
Alþingi was first established in Þingvellir around 930 and is believed to be the world’s oldest parliament. Þingvellir is the most popular tourist attraction in Iceland.
Gullfoss is a magnificent waterfall and also a very popular tourist attraction. There is an opportunity to walk around the waterfall and take pictures at many angles. Please follow the given paths and instructions. Do not walk outside the given paths.
This will be a 30 minute stop.
Geysir is the next stop on the tour. Geysir is the most famous geyser in the world. Geysir was discovered in 1647 and it is said that he erupted regularly and the boiling water would reach up to 60-80 meters in the air.
After that, the tour the will head to Friðheimar, which is about a 15-minute drive. At Friðheimar there are tomatoes grown all year round. We eat lunch there and relax.
Next stop is Kerið. It is one of Iceland’s greatest natural wonders. In minor summary the Kerið can be described like this; “Iceland has many scars caused by fire and brimstone.
Oddly though, most of those scars are beautiful. Even the moss-covered magma rock has some magical charm. The fire has sculpted many places, which are unforgettable when looked upon. Kerið in Grímsnes is one of those places with magnificent colors, resting in green hills so close to the highway”
There will be a 30 minute stop at Kerið. It is recommended to sit down at Kerið and enjoy.
